What we have learnt about choosing the right law firm
Aaron Coombs, managing director of Cunningtons Solicitors discusses the importance of independent and unpaid for reviews.
And why, as well as reading the reviews, you should also read responses from the law firm themselves.
This also goes for other goods and services, but it is particularly important when selecting the right firm of solicitors to work with.

My name is Aaron Coombs, I’m from Cunnington solicitors. I’m the managing director here.
Over the years many people have asked me how can the general public choose between the various different solicitors that are out there in today’s world when they all seem to say the same sort of thing on all their media channels and their marketing materials.
It is true that a number of law firms all say the same thing. I’ve had a look at several websites today and some of the key points they list: “our staff are the most valuable resource, they’re award-winning, they’re passionate about client service, we’re an innovative law firm, we’re competitively priced …”, so if they’re all saying the same thing how can the general public decide which ones to use?
My view would be to look up their reviews not the reviews that are on their individual websites, but the reviews that are on independent websites such as Google or Trustpilot. That’s because these review platforms are genuine and you get to see good – and bad – reviews, which I believe represents a better all-round view of the solicitors practice.
It’s also fair to say that sometimes things can go wrong, so when there are bad reviews I think it’s a good idea to have a look through those just to see how the law firm have reacted to those reviews. A positive response to a negative review by this firm could be that they’ve asked the client to come back to them so that they can unpack it a little bit more, and they can learn what went wrong and put it right moving forward.
